Can't get enough..

Back in Austin and I had to stop at Delish (delish-cupcakes.com)!  I always think about giving another cupcakery a shot, but I just know how angry I would be if it wasn't as good.  So to keep my sanity while traveling I decided to go back to my favorite place!
Mexican Vanilla
This time I went with the Mexican Vanilla.  This cupcake was the inspiration for the Mexican Vanilla cupcakes I made a few weeks back.  If you aren't familiar it is a mexican vanilla cupcake with a mexican vanilla buttercream icing! If you didn't read my homemade post...yes, mexican vanilla is absolutely different than what you would buy at your local grocery store.
Lemon Zest
I also decided to try a bite of the lemon zest cupcake.  It was a scorcher in Austin and this sounded quite refreshing.  It is pretty self explanatory - a lemon cake with lemon zest buttercream.

I started to rank both of these cupcakes on my standard scale, but then got to thinking and decided it was unnecessary.  I have said before that Delish is my favorite cupcakery and both of these cupcakes continued to exceed my expectations.  So, get your rear to Austin and try one!
On a side note, while there I asked for a bottle of water...they only had Voss.  If you ever saw the movie Grown Ups you would understand why I found this hilarious!
My last tangent on this post...I also was able to grab dinner at Uchi (www.uchiaustin.com).  Uchi is a fabulous sushi restaurant on South Lamar.  This is the best Sushi I have ever had.  I am new to the Sushi game as of about 7 months ago, but nothing has compared to my meal at Uchi.

Go to Austin - Go to Uchi - Go to Delish!

I. Love. Delish!

Lucky for me I recently had another business trip down to Austin.  This allowed me to pop into my favorite cupcakery - Delish.  Parking is not easy down on 3rd street, but it is so worth fighting for a spot once you get into Delish.  As I have done in the past, I decided to go with their cupcake of the day - S'mores.
1) the cake - per usual this cake was perfection.  The bottom was a layer of crushed graham crackers topped with a rich chocolate cake.  The flavors were spot on and the cake was surprisingly moist.  For some reason I thought it would dry out with the graham crackers...foolish.  2) the icing - a marshmallow topping, lightly toasted.  This icing was so good I could have eaten it solo, sans cake.  I absolutely love that it was toasted.  I personally like my marshmallows very toasted when making s'mores.  I am always the one the purposely catches it on fire :) mmm. 3) presentation - scroll back up and take a look at that picture.  This cupcake looked so perfect I didn't want to eat it.  All of their cupcakes look like they came right out of a book.  4) creativity - not incredibly creative.  s'mores cupcakes are pretty popular, but I like the way delish made them.  Each cupcakery makes them a little differently and I think this is the first time I actually saw one in the same format as an actual s'more.  5) overall happiness - a real crowd pleaser and yes, by crowd I mean me.  This cupcake again verified that delish is my favorite cupcakery in the country.  Everything they produce is just top notch.  Do yourself a favor, go to Austin, and go to delish.  Austin is such a great city and this cupcakery makes it 10x better.

enjoy!

Keep Austin DELISH

"Keep Austin Weird" is the unofficial slogan for the city of Austin, TX.  I don't think Austin is weird, I think it is AMAZING!  It is without question one of my top 5 favorite cities.  It doesn't fit in with the thematic of Texas as a whole, but it is a great little city full of music, great eating, and a very diverse group of people.  It is also the home to my favorite cupcakery - Delish! (delish-cupcakes.com)  I discovered delish several months ago and could not wait to get back to Austin to go again.

On this trip I went with their flavor of the day - Strawberry Shortcake.  Just phenomenal.  1)Cake - moist perfection.  It was a yellow cake with fresh strawberries in the middle.  2) icing - a vanilla buttercream with strawberry glaze on top.  It was just the right amount to support the cake.  3) presentation - I'm not mad about it.  They put the cupcakes in a clear cup because of the strawberries.  This is a necessary move so the cake doesn't fall apart and I still thought it looked great.  I also like their to-go packaging.  It was just a plain cardboard box with their yellow sticker on the front.  The box had cut outs for the cupcake so it wouldn't move around in transit.  4) creativity - fair.  Obviously strawberry shortcake isn't anything new, but the way they present it in the cup with the fresh strawberries is creative.  5)overall happiness - I don't think it will come as a shock to anyone that I was VERY happy after indulging.  They sure know how to make cupcakes in Austin.  Delish is hands down my favorite cupcakery in the country at this point.  They are for sure leading the league and I would be shocked to find a place that is better.  I can't wait to head back down to Austin for another visit to delish.  If you haven't been I recommend you schedule a trip this week.  Not only is Austin an outstanding city, but they have the best cupcakes!

enjoy!
